A&I Gallery, Hollywood
933 N. Highland Ave, Los Angeles, CA, 90038 | 323-856-5280
Our mission in our gallery is to raise awareness of talented artists in the photographic world and of charitable organizations. A&I Gallery does not represent artists.
Although A&I has a 30 year history as the west coast’s leading fine art custom photo lab, the renovation of the A&I Hollywood lobby offered the long-awaited opportunity to include gallery space. The Highland Avenue location boasts an art-deco/warehouse design with high, wood beamed ceilings and approximately eighty feet of wall space for exhibits. Because the gallery resides within the lab’s customer service area, the artists get constant attention from hundreds of viewers and collectors that may never otherwise be exposed to their work.
A&I began exhibiting photography in July of 2006 and has hosted eighteen exhibits and opening receptions since. The work shown has ranged greatly in content with photography as the common thread tying them all together. The exhibits have included everything from landscapes to nudes to the lifestyle of the skateboarding population. Mural sized prints of Frank Worth’s stills from the motion picture film Giant, featuring Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean, made for a stunning exhibit perfectly suited to a location in the heart of Hollywood. The exhibit titled “Somewhere In L.A.”, featuring a project by Santa Monica College photo students, boosted the self esteem of the participants and raised money for the school’s photography department. This year, A&I was honored to host the twenty year anniversary of the L.A. Nude exhibit, featuring the work of forty photographers including Dennis Hopper, Douglas Kirkland, Herman Leonard and Greg Gorman.
Beginning in January of 2007, the A&I gallery has been committed to using each and every exhibit to raise money for various humanitarian organizations. In nineteen months, these events have raised over $25,000 and an immense amount of exposure for charities such as Amnesty International, Rotaplast, Writers Guild Foundation, Homeboy Industries, The Aftermath Project and Doctors Without Borders. A great deal of thanks is owed to a sponsorship by Hewlett Packard, which has generously funded the printing of more than 5000 fine art books to complement the shows.
